Description
The Caro-Kann defense is one of the most solid defenses to 1 e4 and it is therefore no surprise that many of the greatest positional masters of all time have been adherents at some stage in their careers - Capablanca, Botvinnik, Smyslov and Petrosian were all attracted by its reliable qualities.
The opening of Caro-Kann is completely sound. Black has a number of ways to develop his pieces quickly and no damage to his pawn structure.
